Toby Chai, MD

Dr. Toby Chai is Professor and Vice Chairand Professor in Department of Urology at Yale University School of Medicineand holds a joint appointment as Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, andReproductive Sciences.  He received his BS from Johns Hopkins Universityand MD from Indiana University School of Medicine.  After finishing hisurologic surgery residency at University of Michigan Medical Center, he did apost-doctoral research fellowship in bladder physiology at University ofVirginia Health Sciences Center.  He spent 15 years on faculty atUniversity of Maryland School of Medicine, rising to become the John D. Youngendowed Professor of Surgery in the Division of Urology. He moved to Yale in2013. 

He has received national awards recognizinghis contributions to urology including the 2001 Society for Basic UrologicResearch (SBUR) Young Investigator Award, 2005 Society for Urodynamics, FemalePelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU) Paul Zimskind Award, andthe 2013 American Urological Association (AUA) Victor A. Politano Award foroutstanding work in treatment of urinary incontinence and innovations inbladder research. 

Dr. Chai has published numerous articles,reviews and chapters. In addition to serving on the editorial board of theAmerican Journal of Physiology - Renal, he is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Bladder,and Associate Editor for Journal of Urology. He is also an ExecutiveCommittee member of SUFU  He serves on the AUA Research Council andco-chairs the AUA Research Advocacy Committee.  He is a member of the USAFood and Drug Administration (FDA) Bone, Reproductive and Urologic Drugs AdvisoryCommittee (BRUDAC) and is often invited to review grants submitted to the USANational Institutes of Health (NIH).
