Philip S. Li

Philip S. Li, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Urology and Reproductive Medicine and the Director of the Male Infertility Microsurgical Research and Training Program at the Center for Male Reproductive Medicine and Microsurgery in the Department of Urology, Weill Cornell Medical College. He has recently been appointed as an Adjunct Scientist of Reproductive Health at the Center for Biomedical Research, Population Council, located on the campus of Rockefeller University. Dr. Li has been awarded several prestigious Honorary and Adjunct Professorships of Urology and Andrology at the Andrology Center of Peking University First Hospital (2007 to 2009), West China Hospital of Sichuan University (2006-), Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (2011-), Shanghai General Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2015-), Chaoyang Hospital of the Capital Medical University( 2013-), Peking University 3rd Hospital ( 2015-) and the 4th Military Medical University (2015-)  in China.  In 2015, he was recognized for 25 Years of Service by Weill Cornell Medicine and for 20 Years of Outstanding Contribution by the Chinese Andrology Society.

Dr. Li has authored or co-authored 80 peer-reviewed journal articles, 50 book chapters and surgical manuals, 3 books, and 55 professionally produced educational and instructive videos on topics related to male reproductive medicine, vasectomy, male infertility microsurgery, male circumcision, and public health. He has been actively involved in and played key roles in numerous highly respected research projects that resulted in 5 cover page articles in the Journal of Urology (May 2003, December 2011, March 2012, August 2012, and August 2014).

Working closely with his mentor, Dr. Marc Goldstein, Dr. Li plays a key role in leading several international RCT studies, as well as surgical training workshops for the Shang Ring circumcision technique for HIV prevention in Africa and China. His Shang Ring circumcision research project in Africa was mentioned by Mr. Bill Gates in his 2012 annual report. The Shang Ring circumcision RCT in Africa was published by the WHO in its 2012 and 2013 annual pamphlets. Dr. Li receives research funding from both the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the NIH.

Dr. Li is a member of the American Urological Association (AUA), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), and the American Society of Andrology (ASA). Dr. Li served as a board member of the Membership Committee (2001-2002) of the American Society of Andrology. He is also a board member of the World Chinese Urology Society (WCUA) and serves as an Associate Editor-in-Chief of the National Journal of Andrology (Zhonghua Nan Ke Xu). In addition, he has proudly served as a board member for the Video and Award Committee of the ASRM since 2010.  At the 2013 ASRM meeting in Boston, he was elected to be a member of the Board of the Directors, Society for Male Reproduction and Urology (SMRU). He is also an editor for the Asian Journal of Urology and the Asian Journal of Andrology.
